What are Trigger Points?
Trigger points are taut, tender “knots” in muscles that are very sensitive to touch. They frequently occur in the neck and upper back but can develop in any muscle. Trigger points often cause referred pain in other areas of the body, such as tension headaches. They can arise from structural issues (like disc herniation, scoliosis, or prior surgeries) or reversible factors (such as overexertion, poor posture, or chronic stress). Trigger points are commonly linked to chronic health conditions, including myofascial pain syndrome, chronic headaches, and fibromyalgia. No referral is needed, and we welcome walk-in appointments. A trigger point injection may be helpful if other treatments, such as over-the-counter pain medication, heat therapy, massage therapy, or physical therapy, have been ineffective. Trigger point injections are often most beneficial when combined with these other treatments.
